  DOWN TO NEUHAUS 2005

Terry, Andy, Scottie and Klaus

Many great ideas are founded over a few drinks amongst friends. When WBro Andrew Manson, the Worshipful Master of Doric Lodge No886, in Osnabrück, said he was going to ride his Bike to the Installation of WBro Terry Dryden at Lodge Neuhaus  No 946, in Paderborn, there was no getting out of it. Bro Klaus Schäpering was roped in due to his knowledge of the cycle routes of Germany. The reason for this madness was to raise money for the Kinderschutzbund Osnabrück. The Worshipful Master, WBro Ludwig Schulze, of Loge Zum Goldenen Rade No 219, is the Chairman of this Charitable Organisation.

The Kinderschutzbund Osnabrück is an organization which relies on donations to help children who may require protection or advice and may not have any place else to turn to, it is set up along the same lines as “Childline†in the UK.

On the 10th of June 2005 at 7 O´clock in the Morning, Worshipful Brother Andrew Manson, Worshipful Master, Brother Klaus Schäpering, Senior Warden, and Worshipful Brother Derrick Lorimer, Immediate Past Master, met up for a final look at the map. Worshipful Brother Derrick Lorimer taking the sensible option and providing support, food and drinks for the two intrepid riders.

The route was down the B68, which is mostly downhill to Paderborn! The B68 takes you through some of Germanys´ beautiful countryside, which caused WBro Andrew to be overcome with hay-fever and by the second stop resembled a young woman at the end of a particularly sad film.

WBro Andrew and Bro Klaus were met in Paderborn by WBro Terry Dryden, Master Elect and WBro Ian Scott, acting WM of Lodge Neuhaus at 1430hrs, a full 30 minutes earlier than planned. WBro Terry provided suitable refreshments which were thankfully received by the tired riders.

The next day was WBro Terry´s big day. The Ceremony of Installation was exceptional, and one of WBro Terry´s first decisions was to donate the Charity Column to the Kinderschutzbund Osnabrück.

WBro Andrew and Bro Klaus raised in excess of 1500 Euros and would like to thank everyone who made a donation. A special thank you goes to our hosts at Lodge Neuhaus, thank you for all your hospitality. All members of Doric Lodge would like to wish you all the best for the ensuing year.

All that is left to say is that the tired legs, hay-fever and the “never agains†were all worth it. Well done Andrew and Klaus.
