Foreword from the Worshipful Master

Dear Brethren,

I have the pleasure of maintaining the foreword to this excellent website of Doric Lodge No. 886 GC. WBro Bob Garrett is to be congratulated on maintaining this magnificent effort for present and future brethren of Doric Lodge.

It will, I am sure, be of great interest to our many visiting brethren and will not only serve to promote our Lodge and British Freemasonry in Germany but, by the example shown by our Founder Members and succeeding brethren, serve to strengthen the resolve of those in the, no doubt, difficult years ahead.

In February this year I was installed as the Master for this Masonic year. The incredible feeling of pride I had on that day remains with me now and always, and is enhanced after having read this history. I am very conscious of how fortunate I am to be so well supported by both Past Masters and Brethren alike, and wish to take this opportunity of thanking you all for your loyal and dedicated support to me and Doric Lodge in particular.

WBro Bob writes; â€. .it proved correct to name this lodge Doric as the Doric column means strength..†Our Founder Members needed it and proved they had it in abundance in those difficult early days in our history. We must never forget their shining example and this short history will serve to remind us all that; - What is required to get started is required to avoid our demise. We must keep up momentum especially where recruiting is concerned, it is every brother’s business !

In reading this history you will realise that we are still making it and must go on making it, remembering that; united in strength we were established. There cannot be a more difficult trial than that experienced by German brethren during those terrible years of 1933 - 45 !

I am very proud to be a member and current Master of Doric Lodge, particularly at this time in our history. I am delighted that WBro Bob has taken the trouble and necessary effort to remind us of our roots and of what, perhaps inadvertently, is required to succeed in the future.

So brethren wherever you may be, on land, air or sea, happy reading and let us look forward to a promising united future, and go forward, as in the beginning,

in strength !

Yours fraternally

Keith “Shorty†Green
